It was launched on October 4,1953. It is Owned by Nexstar Media Group, it is a sister station to Santa Fe-licensed CW affiliate KWBQ (channel 19) and Albuquerque-licensed MyNetworkTV affiliate KASY-TV (channel 50) (both owned by Tamer Media with certain services provided by Nexstar through a shared services agreement).Channel also provides Live Streaming TV Online free for its viewers. Its slogan is Local Reporting You Can Trust. Its channels are Digital;13(VHF),Virtual;13(PSIP). Its subchannels are 13.1 CBS,13.2 Fox,13.3 Bounce TV.Its Former callsigns are KGGM-TV(1953-1992). Its former affiliations with UPN/The WB(January-October 1995). Its transmitter power is 21.5 kw and height is 1287m(4222ft). Its licensing authority is FCC. KRQE has studios on Broadcast Plaza in Albuquerque (across the street from NBC affiliate KOB, channel 4). Its transmitter is located on Sandia Crest, east of Albuquerque. Channel 13 began operation in October 1953 as KGGM-TV, owned by the Hebenstreit family’s New Mexico Broadcasting Company along with KGGM radio (610 AM, now KNML).

In the late 1960s, the Hebenstreits sold a minority share to Chicago’s Harriscope Broadcasting, which at one point owned WSNS-TV in Chicago (among other stations). On May 18, 2007, LIN TV announced that it was exploring strategic alternatives that could have resulted in the sale of the company. On August 7, 2009, KRQE began offering Mobile TV using BlackBerry. On March 21, 2014, it was announced that Media General would acquire LIN. The merger was completed on December 19. Just over a year later, on January 27, 2016, it was announced that the Nexstar Broadcasting Group would buy Media General for $4.6 billion. After selling KASA to Ramar Communications, KRQE became part of “Nexstar Media Group.” The sale was completed on January 17, 2017.
